The Innovation Union is the EU strategy to create an innovation-friendly environment in Europe. Launched in 2010, it is one of the Flagship initiatives of the Europe2020 strategy.

The strategy, built around 34 specific commitments, consists of a bold, integrated and strategic approach to innovation combining various policies, tool and levels of intervention – Member States and EU – to improve framework conditions and access to finance for research and innovation, so that innovative ideas can translate into products and services and create growth and jobs.

The European Commission has now launched a study to carry out an interim evaluation of the progress and results Innovation Union Flagship Initiative, through desk research and interviews.

The project is carried out by Ernst & Young, Open Evidence, Matrix and Wuppertal Institute on behalf of the European Commission – Directorate General for Research & Innovation.
