Political advertising plays a crucial role in shaping democratic processes, and transparency in this domain is essential for fair and open elections. The European Commission has launched a new project aimed at enhancing the transparency of political advertising across the EU.
This initiative focuses on developing clearer labels and transparency notices that make political ads more accessible and understandable to the public. Open Evidence, in collaboration with partners ICF and Wavestone, supports this significant initiative. The project, conducted under the guidance of DG JUST, involves extensive research, including interviews and focus groups, to measure public reactions and preferences. The findings inform the creation of effective transparency tools that help prevent the ‘cookie fatigue’ often associated with online ads.
By enhancing transparency in political advertising, this project supports fair and open elections, making political communication more accountable across Europe. Open Evidence remains committed to contributing to this important step towards safeguarding democratic integrity in the EU.
